Working Principle of Twin Shaft Lime Kilns
- Feeding
The raw material limestone is delivered to the kiln through a hopper or a conveyor belt, and the fuel enters the kiln through a feeding system. The double shaft lime kiln has two kiln bodies, and the raw material and fuel are evenly distributed in the two kiln bodies.
- Preheating
The preheating zone is located at the upper part of the kiln body, so the limestone enters the preheating zone first. The high-temperature gas flows from bottom to top, heating the limestone to 800-900°C. At this time, part of the limestone decomposes and releases carbon dioxide.
- Calcination
The calcination zone is located in the middle or lower part of the kiln body. High-temperature flue gas and limestone flow in the same direction, which is called parallel flow. Then the fuel in the two kilns is burned alternately. When one kiln body is a heat storage chamber, the other kiln body is a combustion chamber, thus realizing heat recycling(regenerative).
- Cooling
The cooling zone is located at the bottom of the kiln, and the calcined quicklime falls into the cooling zone. The cold air contacts the hot quicklime, increasing its activity, while the heated air is guided back to the preheating zone, which greatly improves the efficiency of the double shaft lime kiln and reduces energy loss.
